The Beauty of Self-Promotion
By Alison L. Roberts
I'm a little bit of an entertainment geek, but, then again, if you've been following this site at all, you already know this. It is another one of those things that falls into the territory of me being an obsessive writer/musician type. Eventually, hopefully, it will allow me to make a little dough doing something that I love doing so much that I already do it for free.
This is why the March/April 2002 edition of the Request - Movies magazine is such a cool thing. (You know, the magazine that you get if you are a member of the Musicland chain's "Replay" club and that can be found at Suncoast Motion Picture Company stores, nationwide.)
Open it up to page 10, and look at the "Make Your Own Film Festival" column on the far, right-hand side. You'll see a familiar byline. My byline.
I've entitled my little grouping of video picks "Almost Hitchcock," and they include one title I've already reviewed here, The Spanish Prisoner, and an anime title, Perfect Blue. (Anyone who knows me, knows that I couldn't resist getting at least one anime release in there.)
On the next page, there is an article about Dragonball Z. It's probably the only time my byline will appear near a quote from the venerable Jonathan Clements, co-author of The Anime Encyclopedia. This baby's going in my writing portfolio.
I'm the first (I think) columnist to be featured like this. I feel special. And I want all of you to know about it.
That's the beauty of this web site. Self-promotion is a wonderful thing. ;-)
