What could be a conventional plot gets "Gundamized." Although the series packs an action-heavy wallop, it is even more so about ideology. Specifically, "What is peace?" and "What varying paths will people take to achieve it?" Because of the times in which they live, good and kindhearted characters do bad in some cases really bad things. They view situations from opposing viewpoints, resulting in drastically different solutions to the problems at hand. The audience sees how they relate to those around them and how they are viewed by others. While remaining true to their established personalities, each character evolves by taking slow, and sometimes, painful "baby steps" on a journey to determine their ideals and what cost they are personally willing to pay in their defense.
Gundam Wing goes beyond being a story about "big robots fighting." It is a complex melody of politics, ideology and love for country, comrades and self large subjects dealt with in human terms and punctuated by heart-stopping action sequences.
Independent of the Gundam franchise, Gundam Wing is truly an epic in its own right.
