Gendo Ikari
NERV Supreme Commander

Nerv Supreme Commander Gendo Ikari is a cold and distant man who has little time or patience for others, including his own son, Shinji. His knowing confidence in the Eva Program has engendered a fearful respect among his colleagues and underlings. In addition, he has a penchant for memorable quotes — referring to his son as a "spare" (i.e. spare pilot for the Eva) and spouting things like, "She's not dead...yet" — before sending the young pilots into battle.

 

Kozo Fuyutsuki, NERV

Gendo's second-in-command, Fuyutsuki is a former college professor who lived through Second Impact and its aftermath. It is possible that he is the only other person, besides Gendo, who fully understands the objectives of the Eva Project.

 

 

Ryoji Kaji, NERV

Considered by some fans to be "anime's James Bond," 31-year-old Kaji is a security expert, recently transferred from Nerv's German operation. He also has... other jobs. Misato's ex-boyfriend, this joker and flirt would be all too willing to resume that position, IF she would have him. While patiently deflecting Asuka's advances, he befriends Shinji and, in the absence of the boy's father, becomes his male role-model.

 

Makoto Hyuga, NERV

Makoto, Misato's assistant, is one of three staffers (along with Maya and Shigeru) that are intimately involved in making the Evas work on the battlefield. He has a huge crush on Misato but is satisfied with being her friend if nothing else.

 

Maya Ibuki, NERV

Ritsuko's protégé, Maya, idolizes her boss. She doesn't really have the stomach for all the fighting that is involved.

 

 

 

Shigeru Aoba, NERV

Long-haired and seen playing an air guitar during downtime, Shigeru is the third of the team that monitors the Eva pilots' stats on the battlefield and during tests.

 

Kensuke Aida

One of Shinji's classmates, Aida is obsessed with all things military and is constantly filming the world around him with his video camera.

 

 

 

Toji Suzahara

Another of Shinji's classmates, Toji is an outspoken jock.

 

 

Hikari Horaki

Hikari is the "class rep" at the pilots' school and becomes Asuka's confidante.

 

 

 

Pen-Pen

The fourth roommate of the Katsuragi household is a "warm springs penguin" Misato adopted. Pen-Pen resides very comfortably in his own freezer-room.
