Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 | The Characters Print E-mail

In addition to owning a motorcycle repair shop, Nigel Kirkland is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Knight Sabers' hardsuits and equipment. A new character created specifically for BGC2040, he is a quiet and secretive individual with important ties to two of the Knight Sabers. He is Sylia's present love interest and knows key secrets about her past and her reasons for forming the team. Much to Sylia's dismay, he also has a connection to Priss and is one of the few people to whom the reclusive singer voluntarily speaks. (It may be the shared interest in bikes or something else from Priss' past. In the present, Priss and Nigel have a platonic relationship, but it still puts Sylia on edge.) Finally, Nigel is a role model of sorts to Sylia's brother Mackey.

Sylia's younger brother, Mackey Stingray, returns home after a prolonged absence to quickly discover her role as the leader of the Knight Sabers. His fascination with all things mechanical, combined with his desire to help out, leads him to an unofficial position on the team as Nigel's assistant/apprentice.

ADP Detective Leon McNichol is increasingly frustrated by his department's inability (or unwillingness) to do what it takes to get the job done. Despite his cocky demeanor, he is actually quite idealistic and seems to be in the ADP for what most would consider the right reasons — something that adds to his irritation level about the current situation and makes the Knight Sabers' successes sting that much more. They are able to make a difference, and he desperately wants to make a difference, too.

He shares a sibling-like relationship with his partner Daley and with Nene, who both know just how to utilize his tendency for quick actions and reactions for maximum teasing benefit. (Just like a real brother and sister.) However, there is just one person who truly gets under his skin: Priss Asagiri. He is taken with her from their first, quick meeting, but things don't go as smoothly for him as he would like. He isn't really a total jerk, but he manages to come off that way, which only serves to irritate the already surly singer. Leon is persistent, and the thrill of the chase gives way to something much more interesting. . . as he starts to notice similarities between his favorite, moody biker-chick and a certain blue Knight Saber.

Leon's partner and closest confidante, Daley Wong is the more cool and analytical half of the pair, although both recognize a good cover-up when they see it. He also enjoys a ringside seat to Leon's unsuccessful romantic overtures, which are a frequent source of amusement.

In the original series, Daley was a rather flamboyant homosexual, but in BGC2040, his preferences are not really emphasized.

Hooked up to an intricate life support system, Quincy Rosenkreutz, the head of Genom, watches over his empire from high above the earth and lives for the day his intricate and sinister plans for world domination come to fruition.

Conniving and slick, Brian J. Mason has maneuvered himself to the position of second-in-command at Genom and would love nothing more than for his boss to expire — sooner rather than later. You see, he has plans of his own. . .
